About Me

Those of you that know me know that I am not the most active of people! In fact I would go as far as to say that I am a lazy cow! Also, those of you that know me well know that my family was faced with one of the most painful tragedies that a family can face in Oct 2010, the death of a child.

Billie-Jane was our Angel on earth and now is our Angel in heaven.  She was born with HPE.  You can read more about HPE, what it is and how it effects children and their familes here at the Families for Hope Blog.  During her short life Billie and our family were supported by Hope House in Oswestry.  They would help by having her stay with them for a few days at a time to give my brother Paul and his wife a well-earned rest.  This support continued even after her death. They have been amazing.   Hope House Children’s Hospices support families with terminally ill children, they provide practical and emotional support and rely completely on donations as they receive no funding and I have decided that I want to give something back.

I have decided to take part in the Big Fun Run, Milton Keynes in September and the money I raise through sponsorship, I am going to donate to Hope House Children’s Hospices.

Now, I could just walk the course which is 5km, but I have decided to have a go at actually running it and while it’s mad for someone as unfit as me to attempt such a thing, I do have nine months in which to train, so this is what I am going to do.   I need to speak to my GP first, but if he agrees, I will be starting my training programme, all be it slowly and gently next week.  So, I had better buy some laces for my trainers then :)

I am going to Blog my experiences so that those of you who are interested can see how I am getting on (or not :/ )   So there it is…I am not sure if I will be able to do it but I intend on having a bloody good go! Am I mad? Most definitely!

Wish me luck guys…

  1. Well, I’m crying. Good for you. I will read up on how jogging goes for you and after a reasonable amount of consideration I will most likely not follow in your footsteps 🙂

    • Welcome to my Blog…I read a few of your posts earlier and I love your sense of humour 🙂 I did have a little chuckle to myself about you not following in my footsteps 🙂

  2. OK – I’m a man see – you know, one of those toughguys. Except when it comes to health and kids and women and life and …well most everything else actually. I’m a real softy really. My heart goes out for you and I’m here pushing you over the starting line and helping you across the fniish line. Go darlin’ go! I have confidence in you. However, you really do have to start a better diet!
    Watching with interest and hope.

  5. Thank you for sharing your story of Billie-Jane, so sad, yet so beautiful with all the love and support Billie-Jane had in her short life from the Family of Hope. I am behind you all the way, you can do this! Yes, it will be a challenge, but challenges are good! They give one purpose and determination. I very much look forward to reading every post.
